will a dwl-122 d link wireless usb adapter work on linksys wireless g router? will a dwl-122 d link wireless usb adapter work on linksys wireless g router? im having trouble getting them to read each other, also i have another computer, operating vista, that isnt connected in the internet, it tells me to download a driver, how can i get the driver to that computer?
The Phlebob replied: "If the DWL-122 D handles the wireless G (802.11G) protocol, they should talk to each other . It’s the protocol that defines how the hardware communicates, not the brands.
Regarding the driver, if the computer has an Ethernet board, you can always connect via a cable and download that way. Alternative would be to download to a portable device: Flash, CD, even floppy disk maybe.
Hope that helps."
Why wont my USB Wireless reciever not start up with VISTA? I have recently upgraded to Vista and upgraded my PC’s hardware. I am still using my previous USB wireless reciever (so my desktop can connect to WiFi). Anyway when i boot my PC Vista doesn’t power up my wireless reciever for about 3-5 minutes.
It means i can’t surf the web straight away unless i un-plug it and plug it back in or wait for 3-5 minutes. Ive tried running it straight off a USB port (same issue) and now am running it through a USB Hub with dedicated power to all ports (still same issue).
I can’t work out why it takes 3-5 minutes to power it up??
Its a D-Link Air Plus G DWL-G 122 Wireless USB Adapter.
Help!
Thanks Mike for a very informative answer!
I actaully did an entire PC box upgrade and got Vista with it (Running Intel Duo 2.2 Ghz Processors & 2 Gigs DDR RAM – idles at 660megs ram). I guess that does make sense that it’s taking longer for the drivers to load.
Would i be better off using hibernate instead of turning right off? Will the drivers load straight away?
Mike B replied: "The key words you used was upgraded to Vista. While many PCs are labeled "Windows Vista Capable" very few have the power to handle this Pig from Redmond. Your problem is most likely the drivers for the wireless don’t load for 3 to 5 minutes. As a technician I had seen some "Windows Vista Capable" PC take close to 10 minutes to fully load.
I have one HP PC with the Intel Duo core with Vista on it from the factory. And in order to get function correctly I had to bring it up to 3 GIG of RAM.
Straight from the factory (with 1 gig of RAM) Vista Home Premium took 630 meg of RAM just to boot up with nothing running (not even a anti virus program). Before installing any software, I added 2 more Gig of RAM and now the PC uses 980 Meg of RAM with nothing running.
And it is amazing the number of programs and hardware devices that do not work with Vista.
If your PC came with Windows XP, for performance sake, put it back to Windows XP. From my view Vista does not do anything that XP can’t do with a few after market programs.
If you want to stick with Vista, wait until SP1 comes out to see what Microsoft fixes.
Also if you think XP is dead, it is not. 2 new service packs for XP Pro are planned.
SP2c To give more Product keys (XP Pro is selling so well that Microsoft has ran out of Product keys.
SP3 to be released some time next year.
